About

Overview

Steromphala divaricata, commonly known as the divaricate gibbula, is a small marine gastropod belonging to the family Trochidae. This species is primarily found within the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Black Seas, where it inhabits marine and brackish environments.

Appearance

The shell of this snail is solid, thick, and conoidal in shape, typically measuring between 12 mm and 24 mm in length and 16 mm to 19 mm in width. Its coloration is generally yellowish or green, characterized by distinct longitudinal rose-red markings that often appear as oblique lines or broken into square-like dots. The shell features an elevated spire with approximately six whorls, which are encircled by numerous fine, flattened ridges known as lirulae. While the shell is often imperforate or narrowly perforate, specimens with deeper, more pronounced sutures—referred to as scalariform—are also frequently observed.
