About

Overview

Acropora latistella is a stony coral species widely distributed across the tropical reefs of the Indo-Pacific. It is a common reef-builder that thrives in a variety of environments, including shallow, turbid waters.

Appearance

This species typically forms corymbose plates or dense clumps. Its branchlets are thin, delicate, and either straight or uniformly curved. The radial corallites are arranged in a rosette pattern, often appearing in rows with rounded openings. While the colony color is generally a uniform pale cream, grey, or brown, it can occasionally exhibit green or purple hues, with branch tips sometimes appearing yellow. The tentacles are frequently extended during the day.

Distribution & habitat

Acropora latistella is found throughout the Indo-Pacific region, including the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean, and across Southeast Asia to the Great Barrier Reef. It occupies a broad range of reef environments, primarily inhabiting the infralittoral zone of reef slopes and submerged reefs.
