The cosmopolitan hairy triton (Monoplex aquatilis) is a predatory marine sea snail belonging to the family Cymatiidae. This species is widely distributed across tropical waters, including the Atlantic, Indian, and Indo-West Pacific Oceans.

Appearance

This gastropod features a thick, irregularly spindle-shaped shell that typically ranges from 35 mm to 120 mm in length. The shell is characterized by a conical spire with approximately six whorls and a strong varix. Its surface displays a sculpture of prominent spiral cords, granular axial threads, and indistinct ribs. The shell is generally cream-colored with marbled or blotched brown patterns, while the aperture is often peach-colored with an orange-and-white lined columella.
